Jason Piggie, born on January 23, 1971, in Kansas City, Missouri, is a distinguished African American artist renowned for his multifaceted talents as a photographer, filmmaker, writer, curator, and director.

Piggie's artistic journey commenced in his formative years during a high school photography class, where he discovered his passion for visual storytelling. His dedication to the craft led him to pursue advanced studies in photography throughout high school and into his college years, culminating in the attainment of a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication.

Renowned for his ability to capture the essence of everyday life, objects, and individuals, Piggie's work is characterized by its thought-provoking nature and commitment to authenticity. He eschews the use of enhanced manipulation, preferring instead to present his artistic expression in its purest form.

Throughout his illustrious career, Piggie's photography has been showcased in numerous prestigious regional group and solo exhibitions, including esteemed institutions such as the Spiva Center for the Arts, the American Jazz Museum, the Kansas City Museum, the Johnson County Museum, and the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art.

Piggie's talent has garnered widespread acclaim, earning him prestigious accolades such as the first-place award at the 3/5/7 Film Festival in the 5-minute category in 2009 and the esteemed "Best in Show" title at an Arts KC exhibition in 2012. Additionally, he has been the recipient of grants and local residencies, further solidifying his status as a leading figure in the arts community.

As a testament to his commitment to fostering artistic excellence and cultural diversity, Piggie is a founding member of the African American Artist Collective in Kansas City, where he continues to champion the advancement of underrepresented voices in the arts.
